House established in 1976 by Isidro and Conchy, where you can enjoy the most select home made and traditional cuisine of the Orotava Valley.
Situated in an area where the center of the Villa de la Orotava typical and traditional streets connect to one of the most modern urbanizations of the Orotava Valley “Urbanizacion El Mayorazgo”.
La Barraca is situated on the Sixto Perera Gonzalez Street corner Tomás Zerolo Street (one of the Orotava’s Valley oldest streets, popular known as Calle del Agua, and where the Museum of Iberoamerican Handicrafts and the Old Santo Domingo Convent and Church are located.
Up to today Mrs Concha is still at the front of the kitchen range,giving all her enthusiasm and love which is her main ingredient for good dishes, all of this prepared with popular and traditional cooking knowledge that she has inherished.
With the help of Isabel and Isidro (Daughter and Son) they add in a special family value, offering special care to the customers, mantaining the same standards as when established.
Wine Celler
The top chairman of this wine house is Mr Isidro, an expert in traditional wines of La Orotava. His son Isidro is gathering up experience of his father, and introducing new tecniques for wine breeding and elaboration.
As you can see this is a family business, and they use “Listan negro” a natural variety to elaborate their broth where the wine is born with a distinguished scent so traditional from La Orotava Valley.
This wine has been reward several times.
The Cuisine
Eating in La Barraca is like being at home, the pottage, stew salty fish,rabbit, wrinkled potatos, canarian sauce (mojo)....etc.,prepared by Mrs Concha and her exceptional cuisine that gives a Typical Canarian touch to the food. Then we have deserts such has:custard, pudin (quesillo)roasted milk etc....all of them Typical Canarian deserts
All of it elaborated with the country´s fresh and natural products which defines our local gastronomy.
With all of this ingredients we can define La Barraca´s cuisine as home made traditional canarian food ,some of our specialities are:
Vegetable pottage, Made up chickpeas, Stewed octapus,salted fish (cherne) stewed with wrinkled potatos (papas arrugadas)Marinated or fried rabbit, spare ribs, chicken with garlic and the famous canarian green an red sauce (Mojo)
